Downloading Across LiteInstalling Across Lite
Solutions:
Problem: I click to download Across Lite software. Nothing happens or my web browser crashes and/or I get an error message.
Solution: Try the following. Hold the Shift key and click the mouse button on the link on the web page to download the software. In the popup menu that comes up, select the command to save to disk. This brings up a file selection dialog box. Select a folder that you know how to get to later to download the file (e.g., the Desktop) and download. You will download a file called acl2mac.hqx. If you have StuffIt Expander installed, drag and drop the downloaded file on StuffIt Expander. If you do not have StuffIt, drag and drop the downloaded file on an open web browser window. This should use the embedded StuffIt expander and unbundle the downloaded file to create Across Lite 2.0 folder.
If this does not work, then there may be a problem with the web site itself. Contact the support for the web site from where you are downloading.

Problem: I get virus warnings when downloading.
Solution: The program has been completely checked against viruses. However, you may occasionally get false signals when you download a file. You can safely ignore this. If some virus protection software you have is making it impossible for you to download, either temporarily disable the virus software or try the following.
This should use the embedded StuffIt expander and unbundle the downloaded file to create Across Lite 2.0 folder.
Problem: I am not sure what is happening but I cannot download the file to my computer.

Problem: I double-click on the downloaded file. Nothing happens or I get an error message.
Solution: Double-clicking on the downloaded file acl2mac.hqx is neither necessary nor is it guaranteed to work. When you download this file, the web browser's download manager should automatically use the StuffIt Expander to extract the Across Lite 2.0 folder on your desktop. Once that is done, you no longer need the downloaded acl2mac.hqx file and it can be safely deleted.
Problem: I don't have Across Lite 2.0 folder on my desktop.
Solution: Scan your desktop carefully for a newly created Across Lite 2.0 folder. If the desktop is very cluttered, it may be difficult to notice where it has been automatically created. If the web browser is configured to download files to a folder other than the Desktop, the folder may have been created in that folder as well. Use Finder's search command to look for "Across Lite 2.0".
Problem: I cannot open a puzzle with the downloaded Across Lite program.
Solution: The Across Lite program is found inside the Across Lite 2.0 folder which is created when you download the software. It has the icon of a crossword grid with a pencil in front of it. Make sure that you are not trying to open the crossword with the downloaded bundled file acl2mac.hqx which is not required after the download is completed and the Across Lite folder is created.
If you are indeed trying to use the Across Lite program as described above, see the troubleshooting guide for using Across Lite.
